They are initially defined by Nutriset in accordance with the Sup’Biotech laboratory which validates the feasibility of the project within the school
Two projects that are developed at the school:
Sup’Biotech’s decision to integrate itself in the matter of industrial innovation has led to the development of a research lab dedicated to collaborative research. From this decision came the collaboration between Sup’Biotech and Nutriset in October 2011 which was officialised by the signing of a partnership agreement on October 31st, 2013. To this initial decision was added the involvement of students from the Expertise cycle in this partnership. Therefore, the collaboration’s second objective is to allow students from our school to work on the Nutriset society’s research and development projects.
Created 25 years ago by Michel Lescanne, Nutriset has made its objective to propose solutions for the treatment and prevention of malnutrition. Plumpy’Nut®, the first ready-to-use therapeutic food, was then developed in 1996 and has since been distributed to many children suffering from malnutrition. In 2012, “1.6 million children suffering from acute malnutrition were treated with Plumpy'Nut®.” The development of this first ready-to-use therapeutic food was followed by a complete range aimed at responding to other malnutrition problems. Therefore, “more than 23 million children suffering from diarrhea were able to receive, in 2012, some ZinCfant®,”. Since 2005, Nutriset, has set another mandate to contribute to “nutritional autonomy for all” leading to the creation of a network called “Plumpy Field,” a network of partnerships that “aim to ensure the production of Plumpy’Nut® in close proximity to regions most affected by malnutrition with respect for international quality norms.”
These projects are carried out by two groups of students under my supervision, Camille Grillon and Gaëlle-Anne Thillaye, students in fifth year, for the project on fiber hydrolysis, and, Jehane Belal and Cathline Labouze following Marion Bégnier and Marie-Eva Dhez, students in fifth year, for the project on lowering of aflatoxins.
These projects started with bibliographic research aimed at understanding the given problems, then proposing approaches that would respond to these problems to Nutriset. This allows the students involved to think of innovative solutions to food issues. Once validated by the scientific leaders at Nutriset, we began the experimental phase within the technological platform at Sup’Biotech. This offered the necessary material to fulfill both projects, the first on a biochemical axe and the second on the microbiological axe.
